Marine Renewables
SeaOcean perceives significant short to medium term growth in the efforts being made to generate electricity from natural and renewable marine resources such as tidal, wave & wind energy on a commercial and increasingly large scale basis.Indeed, there are many initiatives in hand to encourage such activity both at national and international level and firm government targets for energy to be generated in such a manner, all of which is creating a need on the part of the developers or operators of such systems to have a network of reliable suppliers for key components or services.
SeaOcean is particularly interested in those marine renewable systems which are free floating and, therefore, will need dependable moorings of one sort or another in order to keep them on location often for long periods of time with minimum intervention or maintenance by the operator and in difficult environmental conditions – all of these factors place significant demands on the responsiveness and integrity of the moorings and there are special design challenges.
Apart from mooring such innovative devices to the seabed there is typically a requirement on the part of the system developer or operator to load it out from the fabrication site, tow it to the location where its to be based and install it there – all of these activities require the use of rope products of one sort or another and, at least, in the case of installation activity those devices that are piled into the seabed also need such resources.
